To celebrate International Development Week 2013 (February 3-9, 2013), seven talented high school students from around Manitoba have created a music video called “Won’t Back Down” about the empowerment of women and girls in our world.

The Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) arranged for these musically talented young Manitobans to get together to write, sing and perform a song and accompanying music video. “Won’t Back Down” is about the challenges that some women and girls may face around the world but also about the strength and courage that they possess.

These young Manitobans have taken action as global citizens and have demonstrated their commitment to addressing gender inequality in our world.

The seven high school students who came together to create “Won’t Back Down” are Manuel Candaele (College Beliveau), Paul Currie (Westgate Mennonite Collegiate), Dayle Kroeker-Tom (Westgate Mennonite Collegiate), Madelaine Lapointe (Sturgeon Heights Collegiate), Sharlene Nicole Mabasa (Saint Boniface Diocesan High School) from Winnipeg; Rachel Ashley (Miami School) from Miami and Bailey Meyers (Stonewall Collegiate) from Stonewall.
