What Can You Do?
As a young person, your voice has power and the actions you take have an impact on your school, your community and our world! Learn what you can do to make some positive change.
Learn more about your world
- Tell your teacher about the Generating Momentum for Our World Youth Conference - Middle Years or High School - and ask them to bring students from your school.
- Ask your teacher to order a copy of the ‘Are You More Concerned About a Better World Than a 7th Grader?’ game from MCIC. They can contact us for more information.
- Contact MCIC to ask about special presentations that can be done right in your classroom.
- Stay informed on world issues. Read newspapers and magazines that have articles on current affairs and international news.
Vote with your dollar
- Buy things that you know are made under ethical conditions, like Fair Trade Products.
- Research the products you buy on a regular basis. How are they made? Where do they come from?
Think Sustainable
- Drink from reusable water bottles and encourage others to do the same.
- Ask your school about banning bottled water altogether from vending machines and at school events.
- Organize a fashion show and feature fair trade clothing, or clothes made from recycled materials.
Make changes at your school
- Work with your teachers or administrators to make your school a Fair Trade School, which means that fair trade products will be purchased for school events, home economics classes and physical education classes.
- Start up a group or club with a mandate of taking action on global issues.
Volunteer
- Find an organization doing work you believe in and volunteer your time to help them out.
- Connect with an MCIC member organization who might need volunteers
Use the media
- Make a Kaleidoscope video and enter it in our contest.
- Inform the media about your school’s efforts to be more sustainable and ask them to cover your achievements. You may inspire others to take action too!
