When you buy a chocolate bar at the supermarket, do you ever wonder where it comes from? Who harvested the cocoa beans to make the chocolate? Do these people have safe working conditions or earn a fair wage?

When products are Fair Trade Certified, it means they were produced in an ethical way. In other words, it ensures that farmers receive a fair wage and work in a safe and sustainable environment. It also ensures that child slave labour is NOT being used in production. Fair Trade Certified products (such as chocolate, coffee, tea, clothing, shoes, etc.) are available at many grocery and gift stores in Manitoba.

You can raise awareness about the benefits of fair trade by organizing an activity or event in your school.

Visit the Fair Trade Manitoba site and learn how you can:

  • Sell fair trade products as part of your next school fundraiser
  • Give out samples of fair trade chocolate as way to inform students and the public about the benefits of fair trade
  • Enroll your school in Fair Trade Manitoba’s One-Month Challenge
  • Find stores in Manitoba that sell fair trade products
