  • Capacity Building with Zambian Partners

    Fund: Theme Fund | Country: Zambia | Amount: $10,000 | Funded in 2010/2011

    UCC is Capacity Building with Zambian Partners by providing a management course for administrators and program managers of local organizations involved in development work. Areas of focus include organizational management, environmental assessment, gender, strategic planning, human resource management, monitoring and evaluation.

  • Capacity Building for Indigenous Rights

    Fund: Development Fund | Country: Peru, Philippines | Amount: $29,213 | Funded in 2010/2011

    In its Capacity Building for Indigenous Rights project, the UCC seeks to improve the capacity of communities in Peru and Philippines to mobilize members to understand human rights and engage local governments in healthy collaboration.

  • Bihar Flood Relief

    Fund: Relief and Rehabilitation Fund | Country: India | Amount: $15,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    In August 2008, Bihar experienced a massive flood disaster that has left almost 45 people homeless and many missing. VAK intends to carry out relief operations in 2 districts by providing food packets, medicines, health services and study materials for children affected in the disaster.

    This project was part of $50,000 received from the Government of Manitoba, designated specifically to respond to flooding in the Bihar region of India.

  • Strengthening the Local Economy and the Community Cooperative of the Santa Marta Region

    Fund: Development Fund | Country: El Salvador | Amount: $10,085 | Funded in 2008/2009

    This project aims to strengthen an integrated community development project and community cooperative in the Santa Marta region by: augmenting its apiary, kitchen garden, and poultry raising activities with 10 families to improve nutrition and income; strengthening the existing cooperative, integrating 100 members; and, assisting the cooperative in defending communal lands threatened by the possible eviction of 62 families.

  • Kariba Rural Drought Relief Programme

    Fund: Development Fund | Country: Zimbabwe | Amount: $10,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    This project is an intervention to assist drought stricken people in Kariba using proven conservation farming techniques. The protracted relief program is meant to alleviate the critical food and nutrition challenges of 200 families and enable them to survive the next year without loss of life or livelihood.
