  • Bihar Floods Appeal

    Fund: Relief and Rehabilitation Fund | Country: India | Amount: $25,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    The focus of the project was on responding to the immediate needs of people affected by flooding in the Bihar State of India. The main goal was the provision of emergency supplies to families in relief camps. MCIC funding was requested for the provision of water purification supplies, temporary shelter materials, blankets and family kits.

    This project was part of $50,000 received from the Government of Manitoba, designated specifically to respond to flooding in the Bihar region of India.

  • Strengthening Democratic Processes

    Fund: Development Fund | Country: India | Amount: $22,809 | Funded in 2008/2009

    In 107 beneficiary communities, this project oversees the training of Strategic Action Groups (SAGs) (Women: 48%; Men: 52%) leaders and members in gender equity, leadership, legal issues and business management and vocational training for development of credit and income generation opportunities.

  • Strengthening Strategic Action Groups

    Fund: Development Fund | Country: India | Amount: $36,632 | Funded in 2010/2011

    CLWR is Strengthening Strategic Action Groups in rural India. 170 communities are benefiting from training group leaders and members in gender equity, leadership, legal issues, business management and income generation, resulting in improved food security, sanitation and health. There is also a micro-enterprise component to this project.

  • East Africa Emergency Response

    Fund: Relief and Rehabilitation Fund | Country: Kenya | Amount: $100,000 | Funded in 2011/2012

    Partnering with Lutheran World Federation Kenya, CLWR is providing an East Africa Emergency Response working at the Dadaab refugee complex to enhance accountability, information management and psychological support. 370,000 people are at Dadaab because of the famine, seeking water, sanitation, health and educational services.

  • Strengthen Democratic Processes that Support Poverty Reduction with an Environmental & Gender Focus

    Fund: Development Fund | Country: India | Amount: $35,620 | Funded in 2011/2012

    CLWR will Strengthen Democratic Processes that Support Poverty Reduction with an Environmental & Gender Focus with the training of leaders in a range of development activities related to food security, health, education and income generation in 170 communities in India.

  • Internships for Vocational Training Graduates in the West Bank

    Fund: Theme Fund | Country: Palestine | Amount: $15,000 | Funded in 2012/2013

    This project will improve the market participation and quality of employment of 56 female and male graduates (50% female) of the LWR’s Vocational Training Program through work experience (three-month Internships for Vocational Training Graduates in the West Bank) and employability skills training with emphasis on female graduates, people with disabilities and holders of West Bank IDs.

  • Philippines 2012 Typhoon Response

    Fund: Relief and Rehabilitation Fund | Country: Philippines | Amount: $40,000 | Funded in 2012/2013

    In partnership with its overseas partners, Canadian Churches in Action (CCA), the Philippines 2012 Typhoon Response will repair the homes of 200 families (1,000 individuals) severely affected by typhoon Bopha.

  • Strengthen the Democratic Processes that Support Poverty Reduction with an Environmental and Gender

    Fund: Development Fund | Country: India | Amount: $33,619 | Funded in 2012/2013

    In 170 beneficiary communities, LWSIT is training Strategic Action Group leaders and members (50% women; 50% men) in gender equity, leadership, legal issues, business management and vocational training for the development of credit and income generation opportunities. The MCIC contribution will help to Strengthen the Democratic Processes that Support Poverty Reduction with an Environmental and Gender Focus.

  • Hetosa Food Security and Market Linkages through Value Chain Development

    Fund: Development Fund | Country: Ethiopia | Amount: $23155 | Funded in 2013-14

    This project aims to alleviate food insecurity and increase incomes for 1,026 households in eight sub-districts (kebeles) of Hetosa District in Oromia Region, Ethiopia, by strengthening agricultural extension services, promoting small-scale irrigation agronomy, linking small scale farmers to local micro-finance institutions and enhancing the value chain participation of small scale farmers from input services to market.

  • Humanitarian Response to Syrian Refugees in Zaatari Refugee Camp

    Fund: Relief and Rehabilitation Fund | Country: Jordan | Amount: $30000 | Funded in 2013-14

    Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR), in collaboration with long-standing partner Lutheran Welfare Federation, LWF Jordan, will help meet the basic human needs of 2750 Syrian female and male refugees (75% women and children) living in Zaatari Refugee Camp in Mafraq Governorate, Northern Jordan by distributing shoes, summer clothes, and hygiene kits to the camp’s most vulnerable refugees.

  • Internships for Vocational training Graduates in the West Bank

    Fund: Theme Fund | Country: Palestine | Amount: $15000 | Funded in 2013-14

    In the second year of implementation, this project will improve the market participation and quality of employment of 28 female and male graduates of the LWF’s Vocational Training Program through work experience (three month internships) and employability skills training with emphasis on female graduates, people with disabilities and holders of West Bank IDs. The current proposal relates to the second year of project implementation (March 31, 2014 -March 20, 2015).

    The program seeks to alleviate food insecurity and increase incomes for 1,026 households in eight sub-districts of Hetosa District, Ethiopia by strengthening agricultural extension services, promoting small-scale irrigation agronomy, linking small scale farmers to local micro-finance institutions and enhancing the value chain participation of small scale farmers. MCIC funding will go toward program implementation activities such as training, equipment, contracted labor and local personnel.

  • Provision of Potable Water for South Sudanese Refugees in Tierkidi Refugee Camp

    Fund: Relief and Rehabilitation Fund | Country: Ethiopia | Amount: $30,000 | Funded in 2014-15

    The project is a collaboration with Lutheran World Federation - Ethiopia to increase access to potable water for approximately 12,000 South Sudanese refugees (3,167 households) through the construction of 3 shaded water yards for two identified schools, and connecting them to the permanent water system in Tierkidi Refugee Camp.
