The Relief and Rehabilitation Fund helps MCIC member agencies support communities as they respond to the effects of disasters. Funded projects are often part of collaborative international relief efforts.
Grace Children’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince

Grace Children’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince was severely damaged in the 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti. The rehabilitation of this structure will reinstate its inpatient capacity geared to treat underprivileged children suffering from TB, HIV and other illnesses, and 300 adult outpatients who come for treatment daily.
Immediate Relief To Beneficiaries Affected By The Typhoon
World Renew | Country: Philippines | Amount: $27,000 | Funded in 2011/2012
CRWRC is working with ADRA Philippines to deliver immediate relief to beneficiaries affected by the typhoon. This will be done via a cash transfer project, giving those in receipt flexibility and empowerment as they will be able to purchase items that meet their greatest needs in the wake of the disaster.
Mindanao Flood Relief
Emmanuel International Canada | Country: Philippines | Amount: $20,000 | Funded in 2011/2012
This Mindanao Flood Relief project will assist hundreds of families who were victims of December floods spawned by Typhoon Sendang in northern Mindanao. Assistance will include supplementary food, cooking utensils, hygiene items, children’s clothing and medicine, as well as support in rehabilitation of housing.
Rehabilitating Bahamani Internally Displaced Persons
HOPE International Development Agency | Country: South Sudan | Amount: $15,448 | Funded in 2011/2012
HOPE, along with the Episcopalian Church of Sudan, is Rehabilitating Bahamani Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of South Sudan that have fled their communities due to attacks by rebel groups. IDPs will be provided with seeds and tools for the coming planting season to re-establish and increase local food production.
Relief for Farming Families
HOPE International Development Agency | Country: Afghanistan | Amount: $30,000 | Funded in 2011/2012
HOPE’s Relief for Farming Families will build and stock a seed storage bank and empower affected communities to respond effectively and appropriately to their developing food crisis. Seed distribution will be targeted to those most in need. This approach strategically builds on previous work and complements HOPE’s long term food security planning in Afghanistan.
Support to Rehabilitation and Recovery of Typhoon Washi-Affected Micro-Insurance Members

CDF is providing Support to Rehabilitation and Recovery of Typhoon Washi-Affected Micro-Insurance Members via revolving loan funds, staff support and relocation, and re-start operations where people’s financial organizations have been severely affected by Typhoon Washi.
Emergency Assistance to Children & their Families Affected by Floods in Southern Shaanxi Province

Provision of Emergency Assistance to Children & their Families Affected by Floods in Southern Shaanxi Province will reduce the immediate impact of flooding on affected student populations, provide temporary structures, ensure continued education, and involve students in disaster risk prevention.
Emergency Assistance to People Affected by the Food Crisis in the Tellaberi and Dosso Regions

Plan is delivering Emergency Assistance to People Affected by the Food Crisis in the Tellaberi and Dosso Regions of Niger. This includes food, gardening supplies, recovery of lost livelihoods, community early warning systems and cereal banks with food and seed stocks.
Emergency Flooding Relief
HOPE International Development Agency | Country: Pakistan | Amount: $50,000 | Funded in 2010/2011
HOPE’s Emergency Flooding Relief project provides emergency medical support for four medical clinics serving approximately 15,500 women, children and men displaced by severe flooding.
This project was part of $200,000 received from the Government of Manitoba, designated specifically to respond to the July 2010 flooding in Pakistan.
Emergency Relief for Earthquake Affected People
United Church of Canada (Canadian Churches in Action) | Country: Japan | Amount: $100,000 | Funded in 2010/2011
Emergency Relief for Earthquake Affected People allows Canadian Churches in Action to focus on vulnerable groups impacted by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. The churches and local organizations are working together to address basic needs such as drinking water, food, utensils, clothing, fuel and psychological assistance.
This project was part of $200,000 received from the Government of Manitoba, designated specifically to respond to the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
