  • Community Awareness and Responsiveness

    The project is aimed at creating awareness on climate change, its impact and how the community can adapt to it using simple community driven adaptation measures. It also seeks to research adaptive measures being practiced elsewhere and replicate them in the local community.

  • Community-Based Development Program

    MATCH International Women’s Fund | Country: Nepal | Amount: $5,985 | Funded in 2008/2009

    This project will enable women to earn a living and gain access to resources to take care of their health and that of their families. MCIC’s contribution goes toward funding the farming activities of this project.

  • Design & Computer Laboratory at “el mARTadero”

    Fort Garry United Church, Winnipeg | Country: Bolivia | Amount: $5,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    The Association for the Development of the Arts in Cochabamba is rehabilitating a building that will be used by the local community, a poor neighbourhood, for arts and cultural activities and events. These funds provide affordable and accessible space for artists as well as recreational and educational programs for youth and others regardless of class or ethnicity.

  • Developing Markets for Sustainable Livestock Assets

    IDE Canada | Country: Vietnam | Amount: $24,569 | Funded in 2008/2009

    This one-year project will enable 400 families to earn an average incremental income of $100 from pig production. The project will create demand and provide information on pig raising techniques and develop the local private sector supply chain network providing productive inputs to meet demand and link pig raisers to markets.

  • Dry Forest Recuperation in the Tumbes National Mangrove Sanctuary

    Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) | Country: Peru | Amount: $25,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    This objective of this project is to conduct reforestation in the Buffer Zone of the Tumbes National Mangrove Sanctuary and to ensure maintenance of existing vegetation cover by negotiating an agreement with land owners.

  • Ecotourism and Conservation in the Tumbes Mangrove National Sanctuary

    Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) | Country: Peru | Amount: $30,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    This project will enable long-term conservation in the Tumbes National Mangrove Sanctuary. Eco-tourism will bring an alternative economic opportunity that will balance the needs of an impoverished community and a threatened ecosystem.

  • Emergency Assistance to Children & other Vulnerable Groups Affected by the Sichuan Earthquake

    | Country: China | Amount: $25,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    PLAN is reducing the immediate impact of the earthquake by providing assistance in the form of primary health care, water & sanitation, and child protection. PLAN will work in close cooperation with local authorities in Sichuan in identifying beneficiaries and monitoring project activities.

  • Emergency Assistance to Children & other Vulnerable Groups in Myanmar

    | Country: Myanmar | Amount: $20,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    In this project, PLAN worked with its local partners to provide immediate humanitarian relief. The focus was on 50,000 children and members of other vulnerable groups affected by Cyclone Nargis.

    This project was part of $100,000 received from the Government of Manitoba, designated specifically to respond to flooding in Burma/Myanmar caused by Cyclone Nargis.

  • Emergency Flood Relief & Rehabilitation

    HOPE International Development Agency | Country: Myanmar | Amount: $40,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    HOPE Myanmar is responding to severe flooding and other effects of Cyclone Nargis which recently hit Burma. It assists affected people with immediate relief and later with rehabilitation to meet the basic needs of families. MCIC funds were used to purchase supplies, outfit mobile health teams and take on future rehabilitation tasks as identified.

    This project was part of $100,000 received from the Government of Manitoba, designated specifically to respond to flooding in Burma/Myanmar caused by Cyclone Nargis.

  • Emergency Relief for Congolese Refugees in Sudan

    HOPE International Development Agency | Country: Sudan | Amount: $20,000 | Funded in 2008/2009

    HOPE, together with partner organization Sudanese Development and Relief Agency, is providing non-food relief items for 280 refugee families fleeing from the Congo to the Madebe, Igig, and Naganga areas, located in Ibba County, Sudan.
