This summer, Rebecca Deng returned to her home in South Sudan to help establish the Winnipeg Women’s Resource Centre in Bor, a project funded in part by Manitobans through our Community Solidarity Fund.

Thanks to Deng’s efforts, the centre is now teaching women how to operate sewing machines and will offer literacy classes for girls who were married at young ages and girls as young as seven who’ve lost one or both of their parents.

Learn more about this inspiring project on Thursday September 21 at the South Sudanese Community Centre in Winnipeg. A special event will celebrate International Peace Day and show how a local community has come together to take steps toward sustainable peace in an area unrelenting conflict. Rebecca Deng will share video highlights and stories from her recent trip to Rwanda and South Sudan amid political uproar.
