Released on February 7th 2014

Winnipeg, MB – To celebrate International Development Week 2014, the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) has created a bilingual (English and French) video profile to celebrate the procurement of Fair Trade Sports Balls in Manitoba .

International Development Week (IDW) runs from February 2-8, 2014. The theme for this year is We Are Making A Difference. IDW is an opportunity to explore how Canada and Manitobans are making a difference in our world. MCIC has produced eight video profiles of groups of Manitobans who are contributing their time and effort in the areas of international development and social justice issues to make a difference in our world.

Fair Trade Sports Balls are sports balls which are made, unlike many sports balls, without child labour, ensuring that the workers are paid fairly and have access to social programs, health care and education. James Milligan (Social Conscience) introduces his business that sells Fair Trade sports balls, and discusses how Fair Trade provides a sustainable and long-term business plan. Erwan Bouchard (Directorat de l’activité sportive) volunteers for a Franco-Manitoban sports organization, and speaks about why they chose to purchase Fair Trade sports balls for their programming; balls of a high quality and a competitive prices. This video is bilingual in English and French.

The video profiles of the eight Canadian groups have been posted on www.mcic.ca as part of the We Are Making a Difference campaign. Manitobans are invited to watch the videos and enter a contest to win Fair Trade chocolate for a year with a value of $260. You can also find more information about IDW events happening in Manitoba at www.mcic.ca. The other seven videos created for IDW 2014 by MCIC focus on Canadian Lutheran World Relief; MATCH International Women’s Fund; Maples Collegiate; La Siembra Co-operative; The RM of Gimli; The City of Brandon and Assiniboine Credit Union. For 24 years, IDW has taken place during the first full week of February. This year, it will take place from February 2-8, 2014. It is proclaimed by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada and is a great opportunity to explore how Canada and Canadians are making a difference around the world!
