Fair Trade Always in Fashion for Manitoba Youth
Released on February 4th 2011
Winnipeg, MB. — Young people from around Manitoba will be helping MCIC kick off International Development Week 2011 in style!
The International Development Week 2011 Fair Trade Fashion Show will be coming to the Park Theatre on February 7 at 1:30pm. Chrissy Troy from Hot 103 will be emceeing the event, introducing young people from the province who will be modelling the latest fair trade and ethical clothing, made without worker exploitation or child labour. This will be a fun and inspirational event that will combine fashion, music and education. It will feature young Global Citizens who prove that paying a fair price for an ethically made piece of clothing and making a difference in our world never go out of style.
“International Development Week, held annually, the first full week of February, is proclaimed by the Canadian International Development Agency and highlights and illustrates the work of Canada’s development community” says Janice Hamilton, Executive Director of MCIC. “This year’s theme is I Am Making A Difference, and so we are highlighting what actions young Manitobans are taking to improve our community and our world.”
The fashion show will feature the premiere of the Get Up! music video – a song written by six Manitoba students. The original composition calls for young people to Get Up and Get Inspired and to show that our actions and choices in our community can make a big difference in our world. The event will also showcase the premiere of video profiles of eight Manitoban Global Citizens whose impressive actions have already made a difference, many of whom will be present at the event.
