WINNIPEG, MANITOBA: A carefully curated selection of films will be screened for free with the goal of engaging Winnipeggers in lively discussions about local and global social issues. Manitoba Council for International Cooperation sought out 1JustCity as a partner to create this event series, titled “3,2,1, Action!” in hopes of encouraging those in attendance to get involved in making a difference in our own community and abroad. Moksha Yoga Kildonan has kindly donated their space to host the series.

The documentary being screened this Sunday is local filmmaker Kirby Hammond’s Life on Victor Street, a story about Brent Thomas, his father Fred, and the struggle to stay away from violence and crime in Winnipeg’s West End neighbourhood. Hammond spent two years researching the West End, then two years with Brent and Fred and their family to make the documentary.

1JustCity is an organization that seeks to strengthen, unite and catalyze social justice work in the city of Winnipeg. When we think of a city that is founded on justice, where all are heard, are welcome, are cared-for, are celebrated and all are working together towards a Winnipeg that is even better: this is the goal of 1JustCity. MCIC works with Manitobans who are concerned about building a better world. We believe that successful international development work goes hand-in-hand with efforts to build understanding of global issues within Manitoba.
