  • Fair Trade Always in Fashion for Manitoba Youth

    Winnipeg, MB. — Young people from around Manitoba will be helping MCIC kick off International Development Week 2011 in style!

    The International Development Week 2011 Fair Trade Fashion Show will be coming to the Park Theatre on February 7 at 1:30pm. Chrissy Troy from Hot 103 will be emceeing the event, introducing young people from the province who will be modelling the latest fair trade and ethical clothing, made without worker exploitation or child labour. This will be a fun and inspirational event that will combine fashion, music and education. It will feature young Global Citizens who prove that paying a fair price for an ethically made piece of clothing and making a difference in our world never go out of style. (read more)

  • Making the Grade: Girls and Boys in the Global Classroom

    One hundred and twenty-five students from Winnipeg and surrounding areas will be coming together at the Glenwood Community Centre in Winnipeg on Wednesday January 19 and Thursday January 20, 2011 to learn about gender equality in education around the world. The Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) is organizing its annual Generating Momentum Middle Years Conference in Winnipeg with a second date on the 19th added due to high demand.     While the age limit of compulsory education in Manitoba is grabbing the headlines, the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation brings its annual Generating Momentum Middle Years Conference to Beausejour on Thursday, November 25. Fifty-two students from seven schools in the Sunrise, Hanover, Lord Selkirk and Whiteshell school divisions will be getting together at the Sun Gro Centre to learn about gender equality in education around the world.
