  • Lunch and Learn - Sue Brown from Mennonite Central Committee

    Date: May 18th 2012

    Location: MCIC, 302-280 Smith Street, Winnipeg

    Sue Brown is the Coordinator of Recovery for the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a member agency of MCIC, and will present a Lunch and Learn on MCC’s long-term disaster response to the earthquake in Haiti in 2010. Begins at noon.

  • Manitoba Science Symposium on Sustainability and Climate Change

    Date: May 18th 2012

    Location: Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, University of Winnipeg, 599 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg

    Students are invited to attend the annual Let’s Talk Science (LTS) high school symposium on Friday, May 18th, 2012. This one day event on science, climate change and sustainability will be hosted by the University of Winnipeg at the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex and will run from 8:30am to 3:30pm. The event is geared towards Grade 11 and 12 students and is aiming to provide them knowledge about how science is used to understand impacts of climate change. Students will also be shown practical solutions to climate change and given ideas about how we can build a more sustainable society. The symposium will be structured around a series of workshops, interspersed with focus group discussions and keynote speakers. The morning workshops will focus on science and research related to climate change, while the afternoon will focus on innovative solutions that are being implemented to address the problem.

    You may invite up to 5 students from your school or institute, in particular students who have a passion for the environment and who are interested in science, and social issues. Part of the mission is to showcase opportunities for high school students at the University of Winnipeg, and inspire them to be leaders for change in their community. Students looking for extra inspiration regarding life after high school are encouraged to attend.

    Lunch will be provided for all those who attend. The event is free to students.

  • Canadian Red Cross Power of Humanity Awards Gala

    Date: May 24th 2012

    Location: Fort Garry Hotel, 222 Broadway, Winnipeg

    Presented annually by the Canadian Red Cross, the Power of Humanity Awards Gala recognizes the contributions of outstanding Canadians having an impact both at home, and across the world. This fundraiser will play host to roughly 300 attendees and feature an inspiring awards presentation, exemplary dining and entertainment. Tickets are $150 each or a table of 10 for $1400.   • MCIC Annual General Meeting 2012

    Date: June 13th 2012

    Location: Carol Shields Auditorium of the Millennium Library,  251 Donald Street, Winnipeg.

    The Manitoba Council for International Cooperation will host its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday June 13, 2012. Registration will begin at 6:30pm and the meeting will take place from 7:00 - 9:30pm at the Carol Shields Auditorium of the Millennium Library, 251 Donald Street, Winnipeg.

    The theme for the AGM this year is Connect. Collaborate. Create Change. Highlights of the program include Julia Sanchez, President - CEO of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation who will address the audience, an overview of MCIC’s work this year and the presentation of the Paul LeJeune Volunteer Service Award.

    First reps of MCIC member agencies will receive their registration information by May 13, 2012. Everyone is welcome. Please pre-register by emailing info@mcic.ca.
